Course Description

Visual Concepts I is a studio art course that familiarizes students with studio practices in a way that is current, contemporary, interdisciplinary, and challenging. Students will learn about traditional elements and principles of design and color theory. Simultaneously, we will discuss content and creativity and their effective implementation in visual objects.

Course Goals

Each student should:

  • develop an understanding of formal elements and principles of design and the basics of color perception and relationships,
  • explore motivations in contemporary art practices and familiarize themselves themselves with contemporary artwork,
  • create competent works of art with the guidance of the course projects and material covered, and
  • engage in critical discussion of work with course-mates during critiques and throughout the semester.
